III. Aquaculture
More attention will be paid on the conservation of environment and ecosystem. Cosumers will be provided with high quality seafood with esteemed brand. Plans will be projected in such a way that fish farms will become places for recreational activities and for children to experience fishing practice in family gathering. Moreover, an integrated system of fishery organization, information network and marketing chain will be established, to enable the operation of fish farming entering into an era of internationalization and entrepreneurship. The main strategies will be as follows:
- Automation technology and equipment for fish farming will be applied to reduce the production cost of aquaculture. Through research and application of bio-technology and breeding technology, breed improvement and development will be carried out, in such a way as to enhance the operation of aquaculture, whereby upgrading the operation level and competitiveness of the industry.
- In order to promote Taiwan to become the major aquatic seeds supplier in the Asia-Pacific region, the system of quality verification and orderly supplying of aquatic seeds will be set.
- Fish farmers will be provided with better knowledge of recreational aquaculture, in a view of promoting the integration of production, recreation and ecology into fish farming. Establishment of specific aquaculture areas and construction of infrastructures for cage farming will be planned, to create better production environment for the industry.
