COMMISSION FOR THE CONSERVATION OF SOUTHERN BLUEFIN TUNA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY

The Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT) invites applications for the position of Executive Secretary, which will become vacant in October 2008.

The CCSBT is an international organisation responsible for the conservation and management of southern bluefin tuna. The Secretariat of the CCSBT is headquartered in Canberra, Australia. The Executive Secretary is responsible for the management and supervision of the Secretariat of the CCSBT; and the provision of advice to the Commission on strategic plans and operational matters.

In making an appointment, the CCSBT will be guided by the following selection criteria:

1. high level skills, managerial experience and proven competence in such areas
as:
i. the provision of strategic and operational advice
ii. selection and supervision of administrative, technical and scientific staff in a small office
iii. supervision and management of data, including trade data, and data and document exchange
iv. preparation of financial budgets and the management of expenditures
v. organisation of meetings and provision of secretariat support for high level committees
2. demonstrated capacity to take initiative and work sensitively with members of the Commission
3. experience or demonstrated knowledge of the operations of international and inter government organisations
4. familiarity with fisheries management affairs
5. high level oral and written skills in English or Japanese (the CCSBT is a dual English/Japanese language organization and competency in both languages would be an advantage)

The appointment will be for a term of three years with the possibility of renewal,subject to the approval of the CCSBT. The position is graded as P5 from the UN staff scales and has a starting salary of $US106,368 and is subject to internal CCSBT taxation arrangements. Salary will be paid in Australian dollars using mechanisms to moderate exchange rate fluctuations. Allowances are paid for removal expenses, installation costs, repatriation costs, home leave every 18 months, social security and children’s education expenses.
