In order to meet the epidemic SARS prevention requirement and to maintain domestic epidemic preventive safety, the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. sets the followings into action constructively that fishing ship captains should pay attention to their crew member's health condition anytime since April 1, 2003; All of them should fill out "the epidemic SARS prevention survey" when they harbor, and to disinfect operated fishing vessels and fishing vessels inhabited for Mainland China fish labor. Besides, to avoid SARS infection from Mainland China crew members, Council of Agriculture has announced that vessel owners have to suspend of hiring new Mainland China fish labors in April 29, 2003. And Council of Agriculture has announced "The epidemic prevention measurement of crew members against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)" in May 1, 2003. They have also made some amendments of the announcements in May 2, 2003 and in May 6, 2003. Besides, Council of Agriculture announces fishing vessels or crew members who involves smuggling or illegal immigration will receive cumulative penalty since May 5, 2003.
County and city governments execute "The epidemic prevention measurement of crew members against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)". According to the statistic data to May 21, 2003, four oceangoing fishing vessels that entered the local transmission areas had been monitored in the past ten days. A total of 303,184 crew members whom entered and left the fishing port had been measured their body temperature and none of them are infected. Also, 135 fishing vessels lived for Mainland China fish labor have been disinfected. 9,359 fishing vessels and 395 fishing ports have also been disinfected.
